This design allowed me to replace the boot WITHOUT having to remove the tie rod from the steering rack. You still have to pound the ball joint from the steering knuckle - but that's it. Pry the old boot clamps off, cut the old boot off, slip the new boot on, fit the end cap, and crimp the boot clamps and you're done. I think it took me longer to jack the car up, and remove the wheel. OK, I'm exaggerating - but not by much!
