Nipple broke at the tread and half of the reading got stuck in the thermostat housing. Now I have to replace the whole thermostat housing.

This replacement thermostat nipple doesn't actually work without some modifications. However, I knew this before ordering the part. The issue with this replacement nipple is that the outer diameter of the end that fits into the expansion tank hose coupler is slightly smaller than that of the stock plastic one. The difference is seemingly minute, at only a few tenths of a millimeter, but it's enough to cause a leak. The solution is to use 1/4" fuel line, which gets a good seal on the nipple. However, it's virtually impossible to get the 1/4" line onto the expansion tank since the inner diameter is in fact too small. Threading a bolt into the line opened it up enough to where I could put it on. I've heard other reports of people using shrink tubing to increase the outer diameter of the replacement nipple so they could use the stock hose, but that didn't work for me; only a direct connection sufficed. Also, I noticed a casting defect in the nipple that appeared to be a deep hole. Luckily, the hole didn't go all the way through so I didn't worry about it too much. All in all, this is not a quality piece. I suggest one do an all brass set-up as seen in tutorials on various Volvo forums.
