Porsche 996 Turbo Engine Mount Replacement 2001-2005
Replacing engine mounts on a 2001-2005 Porsche 911 (996) Turbo is a fairly simple job that just about any home mechanic can do. All you need are some basic tools and a floor jack.
Start out by removing the air filter housing.
1. Remove the bolt that holds the air filter housing to the chassis.
2. Loosen the air intake boot hose clamp.
3. Disconnect the air mass sensor.
4. Remove the air box out of the car. Tilt the right side up and turn the air box almost upside down.
5. As you can see the engine mounts are very easy to access once the air box is removed.
6. Support the engine with a jack. You may want to use a hockey puck or a block of wood in order to prevent any damage.
7. Replace one engine mount at a time. Remove the lower engine mount to carrier nut.
8. Unbolt the engine mount from the top.
9. Remove the engine mount out of the car.
10. Install in the reverse order. Torque the engine mount to carrier nut to 85Nm and the engine mount to body bolts to 65Nm.
